FFP2 masks (equivalent to protection level KN95 in the Chinese standard) offer the most appropriate level of protection against Covid-19, and protect both others and the wearer, unlike surgical masks, which are designed to filter exhalation rather than inhalation of air.

The KN95 standard ensures that at least 95% of suspended particles are filtered out. By way of comparison, the FFP2 level of protection in the European standard ensures filtration of at least 94% of these same particles, so the KN95 level of protection is slightly higher than the FFP2.

But given the price of this type of mask, and the frequency with which they now need to be worn, many users are looking for reusable FFP2 masks.

Much more economical, these masks usually have two cartridges, each containing a replaceable filter. After several weeks, breathing becomes difficult as the filters become loaded with particles, and they need to be replaced.

However, reusable FFP2 masks are criticized for their lack of discretion. The equipment is very visible on the face, and most models sold online have two large filter cartridges on the side, giving them the appearance of gas masks.

That’s why we were keen to find a much more discreet intermediate reusable FFP2 mask, halfway between the disposable mask and those imposing double-cartridge masks.

Instead of two side cartridges, therefore, this mask has justone central cartridge. In order not to impair ease of breathing while still filtering air efficiently, this cartridge’s filter is larger than those of double-filter masks, but also slightly flatter.
